During the pandemic of Covid-19, proper education is the responsibility for all parts of a nation. The synergy between parents, students, teachers as well as the government should exist in order to maintain the educational purposes. Seven families from California filed a lawsuit claiming the state failed to provide basic quality of education for students of colour coming from disadvantaged families. This basic quality they stated includes the internet connection, gadgets or devices and other material and moral support for the distance learning.

Nine parents from the largest city in California, Los Angeles, sued Los Angeles Unified School District for the failure to provide a programme that meets "state educational standards" which considerably affected minorities including Black and Hispanic students, especially those who come from low-income family backgrounds. It is described that they are "functionally unable to attend school". A family mentioned in the lawsuit, the story of their daughter being forced to use her parents’ phone for class since the computer the school provided just did not work.Apart from that, they can hardly have an access to the wireless hotspot and some subsidy for the school supplies from the state government.

However, the spokesman for the governor, Jesse Melgar, argued, "Throughout the pandemic, this administration has taken important actions to protect student learning while also taking necessary steps to protect public health. We will defend our position in court," telling the media.
