Not to forget the increasing number of victims of the COVID-19, the Special Region of Yogyakarta receives almost 1.7 million of tourists visiting the region, starting only from July until November in just these five months. In facts, the governor of Yogyakarta – Sultan Hamengkubuwono X – has never issued a regulation about closing the public places, instead of just a strict instruction about safety and health protocols. “The Yogyakarta administration has never issued a regulation on closing tourist attractions, hotels or restaurants,” Hamengkubuwono X said.
The main appeal of Yogyakarta itself is certainly the tourism object, from which the region attained much of the revenues from tourism. The Coronavirus itself has degraded the revenues up to 0.16% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020, 6.7% in the second quarter, and 2.84% in the third quarter. The governor said that hopefully, the economy of the region will rise again by the end of this year.
