The Coronavirus pandemic has brought changes in almost all aspects of our lives including in education field. The Education and Culture Ministry had released a circular letter No. 4/2020 noting that teachers must not pursue curriculum achievement during the distance learning, due to the conditions of both students and schools that is could impede the learning and teaching process.

However, the fact that a lot of students complaining about the workload they have to do as a replacements for school shows that it is quite too much for them. Many teachers and lecturers still stick to the old way of teaching, or even a lot more severe. They still give abundant assignment, forgetting that distance learning is different with the face-to-face one. The students could not meet the teachers and get a guidance directly from them. Therefore, doing assignment they do not fully understand yet is quite a burden.

The Indonesian Children Protection Commission (KPAI) has received a number of complaints regarding the heavy workload as the teachers and lectures focus on transferring materials and assignments in order to meet the curriculum standard. In a press release received by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2020, Retno Listyarti - the KPAI commissioner for education - said, "Lots of students do not have the access to online distance learning (PJJ). Many of them skip classes, grades, and even drop out of school." "Causing them to be overwhelmed and depressed is also a form of violence," she added. (ar)
