The Ministry of Education and Culture changed the form of internet learning quota subsidy into a general quota aka can access all sites and applications.
The form of quota is different from the quota subsidy given in 2020 which is divided in two, namely general and special aliases can only be used to access a certain number of learning applications.
"With this general quota presented we expect students to be more flexible in exploring all websites," said Plt. Head of Data Center and Information Technology Kemendikbud, Hasan Chabibie in an online press conference, Wednesday (3/3).
Hasan said that the change in the form of quotas was decided based on the evaluation results related to the limitations of lecturers, teachers, and students mangakses internet during distance learning.
He ensured that the general learning quota would be able to access all pages or sites, except a number of sites prohibited by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and some social media applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok.
Although the social media application is often used to support the learning process, Hasan claims a small percentage of the evaluation results conducted by his team.
"It's all general quotas except those that are blocked kominfo especially sites that are certainly not healthy and social media activities such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok," he explained.
"So that does not mean there is no teaching and learning process. People still use it a lot for discussions, we know. People sometimes upload something on instagram, okay we also understand. But if calculated on a percentage basis the usage of most of the quota yesterday 2020 the largest is still WhatsApp, searching on Google," he added.
If detailed, the amount of learning quota that will be received will be at least 30 million students and teachers, namely, 7 GB per month for kintergarten level students, 10 GB for elementary education level learners, 12 GB for educators, elementary and secondary education levels, then 15 GB for students and lecturers.
The quota amount is smaller than the quota subsidy in 2020, namely, for kindergarten students, the quota assistance reaches 20 GB per month, primary and secondary education students 35 GB, teachers 42 GB, and students and lecturers each 50 GB.
"That with the general quota presented we expect students to be more flexible in exploring all websites, which they will make a reference to learning," said Hasan.
