The Aviation Medicine or also known as Aerospace Medicine major of Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, is the only one in Asia and one of 5 similar major in the world. This 10 year old major has already graduated 64 aviation medicine specialists since 2010. "Our alumni work in a wide range of institutions, from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Transportation - the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Indonesian Air Force, hospitals, medical evacuation companies, airlines, and many other institutions," said Budi Sampurna, the Head of Aviation Medicine Major of the Faculty of Medicine UI.

There are two main roles of Aviation Medicine specialists. The first one is checking and fostering the physical and mental health of air crews, both at the individual level, as well as at the community level, such as in airlines, Indonesian Air Force, and the Ministry of Transportation. The second role is testing and certifying the health of air crews in order to obtain an aviary-related license needed.
