Chilyah Aulia, a female student from Madrasah Aliyah Al Irtiqo’ Malang, East Java, won a bronze medal on Smart Science Olympiad of Medical Science, and became a Honorable Mention on Biology Olympiad, held by Student Olympiad on April 18, 2021, Media Ummat reported.

Smart Science Olympiad was a contest held by Smart Science Lab. There were four main subjects which became options to students who registered, they were Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Sixteen-year-old Chilyah Aulia said that she registered herself to attend the Medical Science and Biology Olympiad, because the sense of competition is in her blood since she was in Junior High School. She confessed that she had taken 180° different fields of science and had written some contest she wanted to participate on her wishlist. 

“For two years after I participated in some olympiads since Junior High School, I haven’t got any chance to win, not a single contest. There were so many contests I attended but I’ve never reached the semifinal stage. I would closely give up, but there are big reasons which obligue me to win. I harnessed this pandemic really well by learning from some sources and attending online contest.” said Chilyah.

Chilyah added that the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)  “Whoever does utmost, will gain” became her biggest motivation to participate and win the Smart Science Olympiad of Medical and Biology Science.

Ubaidillah, M.Pd – Chilyah’s biology teacher in Madrasah Aliyah Al Irtiqo’ Malang – commented “Chilyah is one of active students in our madrasah, even in this pandemic. She likes to ask questions about biology materials which she does not understand, even after school. When I knew that she won some Olympiad, it was not much surprising, because all I know Chilyah really often attended to some academic contests just like Olympiads. Besides she took biology major, she had also took an economics Olympiad last year and won the gold medal. She could harness this pandemic for developing herself really well. As a teacher, I hope Chilyah Aulia will develop herself more and more and actively attend some academic contests.”

Chilyah added “In the future, I will keep attending some olympiads, then I will stay hiatus to focus on preparing examinations in order to continue my study to university and keep developing myself to train my soft and hard skills. My dream is to be a medical examiner and help others who don’t have to pay much to afford health treatments.” (Aput)
