Dubai International Airport (DXB) opened one of the largest and most modern internal airport laboratories in the world to process Covid-19 PCR tests. The move is part of efforts to further improve international travel security while accelerating the recovery of the travel sector.

According to a report from Al Arabiya, Tuesday (22/6), the construction of the lab is said to be the result of a collaboration between Dubai Airport, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and Pure Health. This state-of-the-art laboratory was inaugurated by Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and Dubai Airport Chief Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

The airport is located close to Terminal 2 with a laboratory area of 20 thousand square meters. The building is also a dedicated facility for round-the-clock processing of RT-PCR test samples collected from passengers on DXB.

The lab can process up to 10,000 samples daily and provide reliable results within hours. The lab is also equipped with negative and positive pressure chambers and is connected to a government reporting platform ensuring safe and easy sharing of information between health authorities and airline regulators.

This launch follows the announcement of the reopening of Terminal 1 and Concourse D after 15 months. "The drastic change in travel norms and the introduction of travel protocols including PCR testing has changed the airport experience of travelers around the world," said Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

“As the world's busiest international hub preparing for a surge in passenger traffic over the summer holidays and beyond, we want to ensure a safer, smoother and faster airport journey while meeting the necessary health protocols. The rapid turnaround of the lab to process test results will go a long way in delivering the service experience the world expects from Dubai,” he said.

DHA Director General Awad Saghir al-Ketbi emphasizes that the laboratory's capabilities will greatly help reduce waiting times for passengers arriving in Dubai. In addition, it enables the effective implementation of relevant safety and preventive procedures.
