346 Homes Damaged and 770 Residents Displaced By East Nusa Tenggara Earthquake

Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said 346 houses were damaged and 770 residents were displaced by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Tuesday, December 14, 2021 based on data as of 22:15 WIB.

 

Plt. Head of Disaster Information and Communication Data Center BNPB Abdul Muhari in his written statement, as quoted from Antara, said of the 346 houses damaged, 134 were severely damaged and 212 were lightly damaged.

 

In addition to residents' residences, the quake damaged three school buildings, two places of worship, one village chief's office, and one port.

 

According to Muhari, the area that reported the most damage to buildings was Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.

 

A total of 770 refugees were reported by BPBD Sikka Regency, NTT. The details, 320 people took refuge in the Sikka District DPRD Office, 150 people in the SIC Building and 330 others lived in the hall of the Sikka Regent's office house.

 

As for the fatalities, BNPB said that there is no record of deaths from the earthquake. However, there were seven people injured, namely six residents of Selayar Regency and a resident of Manggarai Regency, NTT.

 

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake in East Flores, which had led BMKG to issue a tsunami warning, impacted nine districts in NTT, three districts / cities of South Sulawesi and six districts of Southeast Sulawesi.

 

Nine districts in NTT are East Flores Regency, Sikka Regency, Lembata Regency, Manggarai Regency, Nagekeo Regency, Sabu Raijua Regency, West Manggarai Regency, Ende Regency and Ngada Regency.

 

Then in South Sulawesi there are Selayar Islands, Bulukumba Regency and Makassar City. Lastly, in Southeast Sulawesi, there are Muna Regency, Buton Regency, North Buton Regency, Baubau Regency, South Buton Regency and Wakatobi Regency.

 

Until Tuesday night, BMKG recorded 120 aftershocks and several times with a magnitude of more than five, namely M 5.6 at 10.41 WIB, M 5.5 at 10.47 WIB, M 5.0 at 12.46, M 5.4 at 15.31 WIB and M 5.2 at 15.57 WIB.

 

Responding to the series of aftershocks, BNPB appealed to the community, especially in the affected areas, not to panic but remain vigilant. BNPB asks people to see the condition of their homes. If there is damage to structures such as open cracked walls, shifted roof ceilings and broken house poles, you should not stay at home for a while.
