Fasting is commanded to the muslim. This is in accordance with the Qur'an surah Al Baqarah verse 183.

 كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ

"As was prescribed to the people before you."

Ustadz Ahmad Sarwat Lc A in the realm of Qur'anic information or hadith nabawi, there are some information about fasting rituals in previous prophets or previous samawi religions.

The first people to fast Ramadan were Nuh’s people. "The first to fast in Ramadan was the prophet Nuh alaihissalam," said Ustadz Ahmad Sarwat in his book History of Fasting.

Ustadz Ahmad Sarwat said Ramadan fasting in the way of the prophet Nuh alaihissalam people after coming out of the ark in the long journey of flash floods.

The prophet Nuh alaihissalam ark sailed for 150 days in the sea indefinitely until the flood waters subsided with the believers in it." His fast was done when he came out of his ark," Ustadz Ahmad Sarwat continued.

The story of the flood of the prophet Nuh alaihissalamis enshrined by Allah SWT in the Qur'an surah Nuh (71) verses 25-28. The story tells how a great flood once occurred and experienced The Prophet Noah AS with his people. The great flood occurred because of their iniquity to Noah as and did not want to believe in Allah SWT. In Nuh's letter verses 25-28, Allah SWT said:

مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا

"Because of their evil deeds, they were drowned and cast into the Fire; (QS Noah 25).

Mujahid said that the question has been expressed from Allah SWT that every ummah has been set to fast Ramadan, and before the time of Noah there are already mankind who are also fasting.
