Covid-19 transmission was occurring even though the pandemic had hit Indonesia for 10 months.

The number of positive cases continued to grow until Saturday (2/1/2021) which was indicating that the pandemic has no sign of improving.

During on January 1-2, 2021, the Covid-19 Handling Task Force recorded 7,203 new cases of Covid-19.

This number adds to the total cases in the country to 758,473 people as of the announcement of the first patient on March 2, 2020.

On health workers as the frontline in handling Covid-19.

Not a few of them died because of being exposed to the corona virus. According to the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI), there are 504 medical and health workers died from exposure to Covid-19 during March-December 2020.

"With this number, Indonesia is in the ranks of countries with the highest mortality five rate for health workers in the world" Adib Khumaidi said on Saturday.

East Java has the highest death rate for medical personnel. Then, followed by DKI Jakarta and Central Java.

In December 2020, IDI had even showed an increase in the number of deaths of medical personnel up to five times from the start of the pandemic.

Adib said, 52 medical doctors died due to Covid-19 during December 2020. "This increase is one of the impacts of the accumulated increase in activity and mobility that occurs such as holidays, regional elections and gathering activities with friends and family who are not at home.

"We remaind the public to keep strict health protocols because the risk of transmission is currently at the highest point where the positive ratio of Covid-19 is at 29.4 percent," said Adib as quoted from PB press release Sturday
