Wildfires have engulfed southern Turkey widely, leaving people fleeing their homes on Sunday (2/8/2021).

Turkey has experienced its worst fires in at least a decade, official data shows nearly 95,000 hectares of land burned in the course of this year

Compared to 2008 to 2020, the burned land averaged 13,516 hectares.

Since the fire occurred on Wednesday (7/28/2021), 6 people have been killed, more than 330 people injured and have received medical treatment.

A neighborhood in the tourist town of Bodrum had been evacuated, CNN reports, when the fire broke out due to strong winds from the nearby Milas district.

According to his report, 540 residents were evacuated to the hotel by boat, when the road was impassable, as reported by AFP on Sunday (1/8/2021).

Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said’’ crews were still dealing with seven fires in the coastal provinces of Antalya and Mugla, popular tourist areas.

Another active fire broke out in Isparta, 236 miles northeast and in Denizli province in southwest Turkey

Another fire in Tunceli, in southeastern Turkey, could be extinguished on Monday, the minister said reported from the New York Post on Tuesday (3/8/2021)

In all, 129 fires in more than 30 provinces since Wednesday have been successfully extinguished.

"We're going through days when the heat is above 104 degrees Fahrenheit, where winds are strong and humidity is very low. We are struggling under such difficult conditions," Pakdemirli said.

Turkey's defense ministry released satellite images showing the extent of the damage from the Wildfires. The forest area is black and smoke is still visible so far.
