Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said Indonesia's Islamic economy and finance were highly appreciated by the world.
"Indonesia's Sharia economic and financial position at the global level today, is quite encouraging and gets world appreciation," he said when giving a speech at the 8th Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) in 2021, Wednesday (10/27/2021).
This, said Ma'ruf, reflected in the State of Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2020/2021 data that mentioned that Indonesia's Sharia economic indicators in 2020 managed to be ranked 4th in the world below Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The SGIE Report is an important reference for world countries, especially the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for the development of Islamic economy and finance in the future.
From these sharia economic indicators, Indonesia's economic and sharia position is on average ranked in the top 10, and two of them managed to enter the world's top five, namely the halal food and beverage sector and the Muslim fashion or clothing sector.
Ma'ruf said the halal industry has a strategic role in improving the national economy. Ma'ruf hopes that Indonesia can become the number one country in the development of Islamic economy and finance, and become a leader in the halal industry sector, in the future.
Some of the things that make Indonesia the leader of the halal industry sector, said Ma'ruf at least, are seen from four factors.
First, Indonesia's Islamic financial market share as of December 2020 has reached 9.89%, which signifies an increase and is expected to continue to increase to catch up with other large countries that have a sharia economic market share of more than 10%.
Second, there has been a licensing for 3 Halal Industrial Estates, namely Modern Cikande Industrial Estate in Serang (Banten), Safe n Lock Halal Industrial Park in Sidoarjo (East Java), and KIH Bintan Inti Halal Hub, in Bintan Regency.
Third, Indonesia has a considerable market share compared to the world's countries or reaches 13% of the world's total halal food and beverage consumption.
Fourth, the concept of Islamic economy and finance is inclusive, intended for all Indonesians and global people, and has even become a lifestyle as a choice of life needs.
"This potential is an opportunity that must be utilized by Indonesia by taking on the role of a world halal product producer, through increasing exports of halal products, to meet the global demand for halal products," he said.
