Bank Indonesia (BI) continues to encourage the transformation of waqf to be more productive as a key pillar of Islamic economic development. One of them is through digital transformation.

Therefore, BI Governor Perry Warjiyo hopes that in the future waqf distribution can be connected with the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system. By connecting QRIS, waqf distribution can be done more easily, quickly, and safely.

"BI supports digitalization with various digitalization instruments. QRIS is one of the digitization of payments that facilitates berwakaf in any amount through QRIS," he said in a virtual webinar, Friday (7/5/2021).

In addition, another effort made by BI in encouraging waqf transformation in Indonesia is to design waqf-based projects. Because, during this time waqf is often widely associated as a grave and also musola.

Whereas many productive waqf products there are various kinds such as plantations, agriculture, shopping centers, offices and even hospitality.

"We are able to design the project in it. There are facilities of worship and education in madrasah and university but in the complex there are also commercial projects. So this waqf project makes mutual financing. The proceeds from commercial projects finance worship. There is the content of the akhirat and the common problem of the world," he explained.

Then, the ability to design financing. Waqf should be able to connect as social finance with commercial waqf.

"Kas wakaf sukuk (one of the waqf products, used as a linkage. In other financial structures commercial finance can be developed but associated with waqf other than zakat infaq alms. This integration is the key to transforming waqf," he said.
