The Surabaya City Government, East Java, together with the Pasar Surya Regional Company will revitalize three main markets, namely Keputran Market, Customs Market and Flower Market, which some time ago caught fire. Head of the Regional Economic and Business Administration Section for the City of Surabaya Agus Hebi Djuniantoro in Surabaya, East Java, Wednesday (22/9), said the revitalization is planned to be carried out in 2022, along with the remaining capital investment funds to PD Pasar Surya worth Rp 9 billion.

"The city government still has a remaining capital investment of Rp9 billion that has not been submitted to PD Pasar. The plan is to use the money for market revitalization," he said.

Agus added that the revitalization plan for the three main markets is to facilitate the distribution of food needs. He explained that the form of revitalization was waiting for planning and budgetary capabilities as well as the revitalization plan depending on the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We don't know when this pandemic will end. For example, in 2022, the risk of transmission is high again, then the lockdown, then the program cannot run because of refusing the budget," he said.

He also added that the Surabaya City Government actually hopes for the presence of investors in market revitalization which is the authority of PD Pasar Surya. "However, as has happened before, the presence of investors is actually detrimental. And also because PD Pasar's human resources are not qualified to analyze," he said.

According to him, PD Pasar should involve universities and other side ranks such as the attorney general's office to conduct an analysis. "The presence of investors must also be informed by the Surabaya City Government and the Surabaya Mayor as shareholders," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Financial Administration of PD Pasar Surya Sucahyo added, the revitalization or improvement in the near future is the Flower Market.

"Because it's already the rainy season, sorry for the traders there. Therefore, repairing the Flower Market will be prioritized," he said.
