God does not forbid anything except for our own benefit. And on the contrary, God does not require anything but contains wisdom of goodness for us. As technology and science develop, more and more secrets of goodness are revealed from the commandments and prohibitions that Allah SWT obliges us to do. One of them is the prohibition of eating carcasses that we will discuss below.

Carcasses are animals that were originally sharia-halluized eating them, but then died before slaughter, or were not called allah's name on it. While according to the understanding of the scholars of Shari'ah, Al Mayyitah (carcass) is an animal that dies without the slaughter of syar'i, by dying alone without the cause of human intervention. Sometimes for human actions, if done not in accordance with the permissible slaughter method. The carcasses of various kinds, including as mentioned by Allah SWT in His word:

... and al munkhaniqah, al mauquzah, al mutaraddiyah, al nathihah, and those eaten by wild animals. (al-Maa idah:3)

1. Al-Munkhaniqah is an animal that dies from strangulation or deliberately strangulation, for example its neck is entangled by its leash, or its head goes into a narrow hole, and so on.

2. Al-Mauquzah is an animal that dies from being hit or deliberately hit with a stick or similar tool.

3. Al-Mutaraddiyah is an animal that falls from high to death, such as falling into a ravine or falling into a well.

4. An-Nathihah is an animal that is horned by other animals to death.

5. What is eaten by wild animals is an animal whose body is eaten by wild animals, then dies.

All types of carcasses generally apply the law of prohibition to eat them based on the opinion of the scholars, but with two exceptions the type of carcass, namely:

Carcasses of Marine Animals

The carcasses of marine animals are halal according to the word of Allah SWT:

"It is likened to you the animals of the sea and the food (which comes) from the sea as a delicacy for you" (Al-Maidah/5:96)

Grasshopper Carcasses

The carcass of a locust is based on the hadith of the Prophet :

"It is for you two carcasses and two bloods. The two carcasses are fish and grasshoppers. The two bloods are the liver and spleen."

Dr. Yusuf Qardhawi mentions some of these wisdoms in his book Al-Halal wa al-Haram fi al-Islam.

"In the prohibition of the carcass contains great wisdom, including:

1. A clean soul will be disgusted with it, and all intelligent people regard eating carcasses as an insult contrary to human glory. Therefore, we know that all religions of the same-mindedness prohibit it.

2. In order for a Muslim to be accustomed to determining intentions and goals in all respects, so as not to carry out or eat anything except after establishing the intention, manner and purpose.

3. Most likely, the carcass comes from an animal that died from disease, old or new, or has eaten poisonous plants and so on, and all of that will harm its sei eaters.

4. By banning carcasses, Allah almighty gives the animals and birds the opportunity to eat them as a mercy of Allah SWT. In order for humans to pay attention to the animals they have, not let them contract disease, or become weak, so that they die and harm their owners. If we see, the animals in a weakened and sick condition should be treated immediately or slaughtered immediately.

The Wisdom of Prohibition of Eating Carcasses

The scientific wisdom of Allah forbids carcasses as well, some mentioned by Dr. As-Sayyid al-Jamili, in his book Al-Ijaz ath-Thibbi fi Al-Qur'an, page 69, as follows: "Forbidden carcass, because of health endangers, due to the retaining of blood in the body of the animal, and the gathering of microbes. It can cause death for people."

Dr. Adil Abul Khair mentions some of the diseases caused by the vulture, in his book Ijtihadat fi at-Tafsir al-'Ilmi, page 114, as follows: "Eating carcasses causes inflammation and intestinal decay, digestive diseases, such as typhus, tetanus, blood poisoning, and many others." It is worth remembering, these animals can be eaten if they have previously been properly slaughtered and called the name of Allah SWT on it, provided that there are still signs of life on him, for example his legs move, which helps the flow of blood.
