Maybe we often do good deeds. Then after that comes a feeling of pride because it has done good. Imam Al-Ghozali suggested that every believer who finished doing a good deed should be followed by feelings of roja and khauf. Roja means a great hope that the good deeds will be accepted by Allah SWT. We believe that Allah SWT is Forgiving, Most Merciful, especially to those who believe.

The basis for this roja and khauf is the call of Allah SWT in Surah Al-Hijr verses 49-50. “Tell My servants that Verily I am the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. And that Verily My punishment is a very painful punishment." (QS. Al Hijr: 49-50)

Rasulullah SAW was asked to inform the servants of Allah SWT that Allah SWT is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. But on the contrary, it is also necessary to know that in fact Allah's punishment is very painful and painful.

The first verse teaches roja, hoping for forgiveness and mercy from Allah SWT. The good deeds that we have done, there may be imperfections, but we hope that our shortcomings will be forgiven by Allah. We also hope that our deeds will be accepted by Allah SWT because we believe that Allah's mercy is greater than His wrath. By having a strong sense of roja, we will be devoted to Allah. And, Rasulullah SAW said that Allah SWT depends on the prediction of His servants. As stated in the hadith qudsi, "Allah SWT said, 'I depend on what my servant thinks of Me.' (Narrated by Bukhari)

While the second verse, commands to be afraid of the threat and punishment of Allah SWT which is very painful.

Among the other verses that teach roja and khauf are the last verses of Surah Al-Baqoroh, especially the part, "O our Lord, do not punish us if we forget or we are wrong. O our Lord, do not burden us as heavy as You burdened us. to those before us. O our Lord, do not You carry on us what we could not bear. Forgive us; forgive us; and have mercy on us. You are our Helper, so help us against those who disbelieve "(QS. Al -Baqarah: 26)

It is mentioned in the hadith, that when Rasulullah SAW finished reading this verse Allah SWT answered, na'am, yes. This means that everything has been granted by Allah SWT, including people who make mistakes because they forget it will not be punished. Yet we all often forget. Forget Allah's command. Forget to dhikr or remember Allah. Lha wong, when we pray, our minds and hearts forget Allah. However, we have good news, that mistakes that occur due to forgetfulness or mistakes, God willing, will be forgiven, so the perpetrators will not be punished.

According to Imam Ghozali, we must not only rely on the roja side. Must be accompanied by khauf. So between the feelings of roja and khauf must be balanced. Between hope and fear. Don't use verses about roja and then we recite while. If we are too excited because of our roja will be complacent. Proud of our deeds or belittle our mistakes. Don't let it be because of believing in Allah SWT, Most Forgiving and Forgiving that we just leave Allah's prohibitions at will. Not performing prayers. Not practicing obedience.

But on the other hand, if we are too khouf, we will become hopeless people and have prejudice against Allah. As if everything is wrong and will be punished by God. This is not allowed. Because the mercy of Allah SWT is far greater than his wrath.
