Mawada Al-Adham is one of five TikTok and Instagram stars who got arrested for what they posted on those platforms. Mawada was sentenced for two years in prison and fined around $20,000. She got sentenced for her dance with fashionable clothes. The prosecutor found these videos indecent. As an addition, the prosecutor added the evidence in the form of 17 photos of her, whereas she stated that these photos were leaked from her old phone that was stolen last year.

This 22-year- old university student's sister, Rahma, said that Mawada only wanted to be a famous and popular actress. "Why her? Some actresses dress in a very explicit way and nobody dares to touch them," she said. Mwada herself fainted when she heard the verdict. Her sister shocked. "Our mother sometimes wakes up at night and asks is Mawada is back home," said Rahma. "She cries all the time."

Meanwhile, Mohamed Lotfy, the executive director of Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms says, "This case is a form of gender discrimination. Women are only allowed to express themselves on social media according to the government's dictations. These girls are accused of violating Egyptian family values, but no one has ever defined these values."
