The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that Indonesia's trade balance throughout 2020 was a surplus of US $ 21.74 billion. This trade balance surplus was the highest since 2011.

This means the trade surplus was the highest since 9 years ago, which in 2011 recorded a surplus of US $ 26.06 billion.

"If trace backwards, the trade balance surplus in 2020 is the highest since 2011," said Head of BPS Suhariyanto Friday (15/1/2021).

"Total exports were negative 2.61%, but our imports contracted much deeper, 17.34%," he said.

In 2020, Indonesia's trade balance will experience a surplus from the United States of US $ 1.23 billion, India with a surplus of US $ 866.3 million, and the Philippines with a surplus of US $ 468.9 million.

Apart from experiencing a surplus, Indonesia was experiencing a deficit with several countries. The largest deficit occurred with China at US $ 1.12 billion, Australia at US $ 260.2 billion, and Brazil at US $ 203.3 billion.
